What are the necessary academic requirements to be admitted for a pilot training course?
There are no subject requirements but an understanding of mathematics and science will be an advantage. An aptitude test will as well be conducted prior to starting of any pilot training course. You need to be medically fit and proficient in English, both written and spoken
Is there an age restriction required to enroll for cabin crew training?
No. You can fly as a flight attendant until retirement age provided you pass your annual recurrent training and meet the medical requirements, as well as the airline requirements. To do the course, we train any age, this is your decision to do the course and you should have an understanding of which airline will employ you at your age, every airline is different in their requirements of age. You must however be 18 years of age or older by the time you write your SACAA exam
How long does it take to obtain a Pilot Licence?
How long it takes to complete your pilot license depends on various factors, including your aptitude for flying, how quickly you pass your theoretical examinations, the frequency of your lessons whether you enrolled part-time or full-time. Average period to complete your Private Pilot Licence 6 months and Commercial Piot Licence 24 months
Do you offer online training/classes?
No, we are not able too due to the requirements from SACAA for all the aviation courses, which requires practical assessments, forexample; Fire Fighting must be done practically, you cannot put a fire out online
Study intakes for the 2025 academic year
Due to regulatory limitations on the number students per intake, applicants meeting the entry requirements for any of our aviation study programmes will be awarded a space in any of the next available intake for the 2025 academic year. This could either be the January intake, or instead enroll for the May intake. Placements are awarded based on merit and a first come first serve basis
Are accommodation facilities available?
Yes, we have accommodation at the school premises. Ladies and Gents do not share accommodation. No Drugs or Alcohol are allowed on the premises. We have a study lounge for students, Dart Board, Table Tennis and Soccer for after hours enjoyment and team building
How much are the course fees for the study programmes?

Does the SkyBy Bursary Funding cover students enrolled at other aviation schools?
Unfortunately it doesn't. The 2025 SkyBy Bursary Program is only intended for financially deserving South Afircan citizens of the age 24 years and below who are already enrolled at SkyBy or wish to enrol on a full time basis to study an aviation related course at SkyBy Aviation School in the 2025 academic year
What happens after I have completed my aviation training?
Once the training course has been completed at SkyBy, and you were successful in all the components, you will then write a final SACAA examination. After completion of that and you were successful, the SACAA will issue you a license. It is then up to you to find employment with the commercial airlines or private charters, as with completing any qualification at an institution
Will a RSA PPL or CPL be valid in a foreign country?
Depending on the state’s aviation authority, most countries will accredit holders of a RSA PPL/CPL with the experience gained. It may be within the jurisdiction of the concerned state to validate such a license or issue a home country license, provided that certain or all theory exams might have to be retaken. Additionally, it is subject to a skill test by a Designated Flight Examiner(DFE) for that state and type of license application
Can I do my pilot licence training on a part time basis?
Yes, that is possible. The only implications are that one would probably take a longer time to complete the course and will exceed the minimum required hours to obtain a PPL due to infrequent flying and slower skill progression. This will not affect training negatively, apart from cost implications, provided that one does not exceed the maximum hours for certain phases of flight
What kind of planes do you fly at SkyBy?
We have modern fleet of planes and have just added several new vehicles to our fleet. Three of the models we use are the Tecnam P2002JF, the Tecnam P2006T, and the Piper PA28
Will the training be different if I am an International studentenrolled at SkyBy?
Everyone that meets the minimum entry criteria may apply. SkyBy maintains equal opportunity standards that prohibit discrimination based on gender, race, religion, age or national origin. With regard to international students (without South Aftican ID), being accepted in our course, means you will be able to apply for a student visa. So far, our success record is 98% in obtaining visas for our students
